What lenses are compatible with the Nikon D300?

I just received a pamphlet from the Ritz Camera store and have a Quantaray zoom f/3.5-6.3 AF 18-200 for sale for $ 199. Done I wonder what lenses are compatible with the Nikon D300? How about Tamron? I guess the lenses must be the autofocus and VR, but not sure. I'm not very experienced with what works and does not! I throw the butt of a 70-200mm f/2.8VR that I love and spent a fortune on. I've been trying to take pictures of sports mostly night games under the lights (football). Added a flash and my football pictures are awesome! What are some other cool glasses to experiment with – just for fun? Landscapes during the day – that sort of thing! I was hoping a good lens of experts to save me from hours of reading ….
