Orlando, FL (July 5, 2007) â € "One night, after only a month old, Elizabeth Dragovits had obstructive sleep apnea and nearly dies in his fatherâ € ™ s arms. Her underlying medical condition was unknown to their parents at the time. All they knew, and who came to the hospital was that his little body needs oxygen to survive.
Doctors performed a tracheostomy to maintain airway. Her parents were terrified by what had happened and what the future might hold your baby. But they learned a very important fact along the way, with proper instruction and dedication, a parent can rise above the stress, fear and anxiety. The couple decided to turn their frightening experience into a positive. As executive producers on the Creative Force Productions Video Dragovits Matt and Melanie created the first comprehensive online video focusing on pediatric tracheostomy care.
â € œIt is our hope that by providing this educational resource to families facing tracheostomies that the fears and frustrations of parents will be diminished, while their confidence in caring for your child is € enhancedâ said Mr. Dragovits, CEO of Creative Force.
Cynthia Bissell, RN is the owner of Tracheostomy.com, the weba ™ € s destination for trach-related information. Along with the Creative Force, Bissell is helping to raise awareness of this resource in recently launched online.
â € OEI'm very excited that Matt and Melanie have made this excellent tracheostomy care video, titled "Breath of life "and itâ € ™ s online available to everyone for free. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video can speak a million words. I know this video tutorial will be useful not only to parents of children with tracheostomy, but to anyone involved in the care of children with tracheostomies, including nurses, respiratory therapists, and € caregivers.â Cynthia said.
During the course of half an hour program parents learn about the major issues related to daily care, such as tracheostomy suctioning, humidity, tracheostomy ties, cleaning the stoma, tracheostomy change, warning signs, travel kit, and another day to tips day. Timothy Myers, Director, Asthma & Diagnostic Centers and Pediatric Respiratory Care – University Hospital € ™ s Rainbow Babies & Children € ™ s Hospital had to say this.
â € "This video takes a very fundamental approach to tracheostomy care and management by the caregiver in the home environment. The detail and clinical description accurate and current, but not very practical for the health professional to provide this care accurately and safely. This video is of very high quality and very professional in his presentation, and I recommend it as additional viewing (in addition to the professional instruction received) to families of children with tracheostomy that began the transition. It will also serve as an excellent test for families with children already in the home environment as it includes the â € € œcurrent concepts of best practice for tracheostomy care and management.â €
