Can a micro-macro lens used in normal shooting distances (4 + feet)?

Firstly I do not know the difference between micro and macro. I've always heard the so-called macro lenses, but when I looked at Nikon's website, which were classified as micro. What is the difference? Secondly, if I bought a micro / 60 mm macro lens say you could use it as my full-time goal when I'm taking photographs of people at a reasonable distance for events, or just focus on objects that are very close to it?

The answers are correct. I will only add a visual aid. Here are my samples taken with the Nikon 60mm "micro" lens. Most of them are actually within walking distance, but some are "tele" normal light shots. I used this goal in several Nikon SLRs, but they all have the DX sensor, so the goal is "effective", 90 mm in all my shots. The 60mm is probably the most acute lens I have.
