HELP! Not a professional photographer, but shooting a wedding Saturday?
My good friend from high school is getting married on Saturday. His Photographer bail in the last minute and ripping her off (another story, not what my question is about) She knows I love taking pictures and I think I feel good for an amateur, but has asked me to take photos for their wedding. HELP ME PLEASE! Simple tips PLEASE. If you are using words I do not know please explain what they mean and how to do it in my camera. Team I have. Canon XTi Tamron 70-300 mm 1:4-5.6 Tele-Macro (1:2) .. I'm reading this from the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens also The goal of the kit WEDDING AWAY 5 PM. Tents RECEPTION TO FOLLOW. Any help would be very appreciated .. please do not criticize me for going over my head …. I know this. He chose the best answer.
pre-planning is your friend! Make a list of vaccines that your friend feels that he should have – dressing bride, groom dress, the bride and groom at the altar, the entire wedding party … so keep the list with you, make sure you have all shots, and then try to have fun, a Once you make these photos, and get some good candids (which often prove to be a favorite) take multiple shots of groups, since there is usually at least one person flashes on at least one shot. Make sure you have fully charged batteries (and spares), and enough space on the memory card (2-4G should be sufficient, and if you have a plenty of space, err on the side of taking more photos, you can always delete those that do not like.) Your camera is sufficient enough – I'd recommend the goal of the kit for candids (since you can expand upon him), and the 50mm for portraits, because it is a better target, and is better for low light. You can probably leave the 70-300 at home, but who knows, you might want to take just in case. if you have the funding, there are two things I'd recommend: 1. 28-105 f/4.0-5.6 USM – Should be around $ 200-220 in B & H, J & R, Adorama … If for some reason you have a lot of money to spend, I recommend a better lens, but one of a great coup for their money, and we will use a lot. 2. Speedlite one – the flash update make a difference (which is part of what makes professional photos look professional) and you can get a lower end Canon Speedlite (the 220EX) for $ 125 (although there Recommends the next level) – again, a good investment if you love taking pictures;) Go your local camera store and see what they have. Most importantly – try to enjoy! Your friend is lucky to have to bail her out, and you'll do very well … Sure you have business cards just in case – could get some more photo gigs! Good luck! Edit: A few people mentioned wear comfortable clothing / shoes and making sure you eat – I totally agree! Clothing / Footwear: usually wear trousers when I shoot, because I always squat and move around a lot, and ending Intermittent people and / or tripping over if I wore a skirt. I have comfortable flat shoes – I recommend Safe-T-Step or some type of footwear for people working on their feet – Slip (this can be important!), Durable, and come in various styles. It also feels good to have a new pair of shoes to drop in at the end of the day / night. Eating: see if you can get a dish reserved for you if you are not able to eat with the guests … you may want to bring a protein bar or other in your camera bag lunch, just in case … and be sure to stay hydrated:)
