The Olympus WS-Series digital voice recorders are packed with features and have a small elegant design. The WS-Series includes three different models that are WS-311M, WS-321M and WS-331M. The only feature that makes these models is that the storage capacity. They have 512 MB, 1GB and 2GB respectively.
The Olympus WS-321M Digital Voice Recorder is the model we are reviewing and 1 GB version. The WS-321M was designed with the music lover in mind. You can play all MP3 music files and WMA. It connects to your computer via USB port and you can sync with Windows Media Player.
The sound quality when playing files music is impeccable. It has an equalizer that can adjust to different listening styles such as rock, jazz, pop, music playback etc. has also SRS WOW technology, which improves the quality of reproduction. I compared the music playback on other models like the Olympus DS-30 and DS-40 and there is no comparison the richness of sound. If you want your digital voice recorder to double as a portable music player should consider the Olympus WS-321M digital voice recorder.
The WS-321M is battery operated one or AAA rechargeable NiMH cell. The WS-321M is small and measures only 3.7 by 1.5 by 0.4 inches, and the elegant finish white exterior makes it seem much colder than your voice recorder average. At the top of the voice recorder are headphones and microphone. On the right side are the play, stop, and record buttons. On the left is a slide switch where you can switch between voice recorder and music player mode. There is a round OK / menu button on the front of the recorder, when pressed quickly acts as a play button, but when you have to set It will take you to a menu with more options. One of the best things about the WS-321M is its ability to break and plug into a USB port. No cables, which essentially becomes a jump / USB drive.
The WS-321M is designed to transfer music from your PC to the player a breeze. You can use Windows Media Player or simply drag and drop from any file management tool. Since the WS-321M operates both as a jump drive / storage device your PC will recognize as another drive when connected to your computer. You can organize songs by artist, album or genre. You can create folder names for each artist. There is a way shuffle.
If you want to record music with the WS-321M can not meet their expectations, the recorder is designed primarily for voice recording. The WS-321M works great for playing podcasts and music collection, but you should not buy just for the aspect of music playback. You must buy only if you are planning on using mostly as a voice recorder. The voice recording functions of the recorder is powerful enough for professional use. The registrar must perform well enough for doctors, journalists and businessmen.
Despite all the capabilities of playing music WS-321M, is after all a digital voice recorder and that's what it was built. The microphone has two recording modes for different recording environments. No dictation mode, which has a lower sensitivity and is designed for the recording of an individual or in a conversation. The other way is the way to conference which has a greater sensitivity and is designed for conferences or where a large group of people. One of the interesting things you can do with the WS-321M is a loop connecting external microphone clip (Olympus Tie-clip Microphone ME-52W), can put the recorder in the pocket of someone giving a lecture and have the microphone near the mouth of speakers for a better quality recording.
Sometimes, the recordings may have background noise that can make playback difficult to understand. Not to worry because the WS-321M has a noise canceling function and a voice filter for better quality playback. Cancel the noise can be activated to reduce background noise in recordings made in noisy environments. Indeed, the function treats the loudest sounds like the most important and reduces other sounds to make more clear dictation. Voice Filter enhances the human voice by reducing low frequency noise and high during playback. Also, for the transcript of the recordings, WS-321M has slow and fast playback speed variations.
Only a couple of things I do not like about the recorder. Since the voice recorder is so small, Built in speaker is small and the quality is not very high or high. By using the external speaker, I found myself putting the recorder to my ear so I could hear. If you go reproduce music or voice recordings, I recommend using the headphones that come with it. The screen size is a bit small, but do you have to do. Beyond that, I really could not find anything that bothers me about the recorder.
When it comes to this, the Olympus WS-321M Digital Voice Recorder is a well-rounded unit. It is powerful enough for professional use but also can double as fun music playing device. If you are looking for a recorder that is good enough for professional use, the WS-321M will do everything you need to do. The music playing capabilities are a plus but I would not use the WS-321M as their primary music player.
