In an attempt to extract the best possible image quality and detail of her photographs, many photographers, Nikon has chosen to shoot in RAW format. Putting digital cameras SLR in RAW, NEF (Nikon Electronic Format) is produced, instead of the default JPEG (JPG).
RAW files contain a wealth of information, and there many software programs on the market that are available to decode this information and convert it into JPG, PNG and such. Some of these programs are free, although most of the best are not. Adobe Photoshop and Nikon Capture NX fall into the category non-free.
Nikon Capture NX is sold by Nikon, and unfortunately, not included with with the digital SLR camera you buy.
Skip past discussions on whether Nikon should have included the software as a freebie first, is generally recognized that Nikon Capture NX is the best option for getting the most from NEF files.
However, there is an easy to master, and the next question is, of course, what books are recommended for the student NX?
The first point in search of instruction is the tutorial that comes with NX in yes. It is true, is pretty basic, and you probably want something more substantial than to extend your creativity with the program.
Number 1 on the list is Jason P. Odell 's' The Photographer's Guide to Capture NX. Undisputed is the fact that this booklways comes on top of the recommendations in various digital photography forums. Jason has done an excellent job with this book of rich content, which only costs $ 24.99 for the downloadable electronic version. Top brands give your writing style that presents information in a complete and easy to follow form. He shares several tips, such as sharpening techniques, how to play Velvia look and using control points as possible. Jason is also very sensitive to questions submitted by email and is active in the forums.
Another book worth considering is that of Ben Long 'Real World Nikon Capture NX. At the time of writing, has not been released yet at Amazon.com. Keep looking reader feedback on it once it starts shipping. The list price is $ 34.99, but Amazon.com lists as $ 24.14 and is available for pre-order. You should to pay for shipping separately for this paperback.
