How I can mount an external microphone to the Canon 7D?
Do some searching, but did not find exactly what I was looking for. I will be doing a lot of video interviews with the 7D. I probably will use my 17-55 f/2.8. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get this to work. I have an Olympus WS-331M Digital Voice Recorder. I used this for about 3 years and have been quite happy with it. Here are my questions. 1. How I can ride is on the 7D? I have read a few threads saying that people ride in the shoe? How to do this and what are the other options? 2. Assuming that most people you interview will be standing on 18-25mm camera, what is the best way to approach this? Should I use the WS-331M with an extension of shotgun? Or I get a completely different microphone? Any help would be great. Thanks
It's all about the microphone and placement. If you are sufficiently close to your interviewee, enclosing your shoe Olympus is a reasonable plan. Try something like this to give a reasonable device mounting area of the voice recorder. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/407098-REG/Rycote_037303_037303_Hot_Shoe_Extension.html Try not to use tape. I have trouble believing that the range of 18-25 mm from the camera to interview, unless you are interviewing the bumblebees. Perhaps 18 to 25 feet? If so, a short gun microphone is a necessity (unless you can get a lapel microphone directly to them). If you use a shotgun microphone, remember not pick up your voice asking the question.
